The process of metal photo etching begins with a high-quality metal sheet, typically made of stainless steel, copper, brass, or aluminum. The desired design is first created using computer-aided design (CAD) software, which is then printed onto a light-sensitive photoresist film. The film is then carefully placed on the metal sheet, which is coated with a light-sensitive emulsion.
The metal sheet with the photoresist film is exposed to ultraviolet light through a photographic mask that contains the design. The UV light hardens the photoresist in the areas where the light passes through the mask, while leaving the rest of the photoresist unaffected. The unhardened areas are then washed away with a developing solution, revealing the bare metal underneath.
Next, the metal sheet is submerged in an etching solution that selectively dissolves the exposed metal, creating the desired pattern. The etching process can be controlled to achieve precise depths and dimensions, allowing for the creation of intricate and complex geometries. Once the etching is complete, the remaining photoresist is removed, leaving behind a clean and detailed metal part.
